About Therapy
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, or struggling in your relationships, therapy can help. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counseling. Therapy is also valuable for anyone seeking personal growth, self-understanding, or support through life transitions. If you’re unsure, I’m happy to talk with you briefly by phone to help you decide.
What happens in the first session?
The first session (intake) is about getting to know each other. I’ll ask questions about what brings you to therapy, your background, and your goals. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask me questions and see if we’re a good fit. There’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with—we go at your pace.
How long does therapy take?
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals and concerns. Some people find relief in a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. You’re always in control of how long you continue.
How often will we meet?
Most clients start with weekly sessions, especially at the beginning of treatment. As you progress and develop new skills, we may meet less frequently (every other week or monthly). We’ll work together to find a schedule that fits your needs and goals.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
That’s completely normal! You don’t need to come prepared with a specific topic. Sometimes we’ll work on ongoing issues, and other times we’ll explore whatever feels most pressing that day. I’ll guide the conversation and help you explore what’s on your mind.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share with me stays between us, with a few legal exceptions: if there’s an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, if there’s suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable adult, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I’ll explain these limits fully during our first session.
Appointments & Scheduling
How do I schedule an appointment?
The easiest way is through my secure online scheduling system. You can also call me at (717) 897-7798. If I’m in session, leave a voicemail and I’ll return your call within 24-48 hours.
Do you offer evening or weekend appointments?
I offer evening hours on Thursdays until 8:00 PM. Weekend appointments are not currently available, but telehealth options provide flexibility if you have a busy schedule.
What is your cancellation policy?
I request at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee, as that time is reserved specifically for you. I understand emergencies happen—just communicate with me and we’ll work it out.
Do you offer telehealth sessions?
Yes! I offer secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions for clients throughout Pennsylvania. Telehealth is a great option for those with busy schedules, transportation challenges, or who prefer the comfort of their own space. Many clients find telehealth just as effective as in-person sessions.
Insurance & Payment
What insurances do you accept?
I am in-network with:
- Highmark
- United Healthcare
- Optum Behavioral Health
- Capital Blue Cross
- Quest Behavioral Health
I can also bill other insurance companies as an out-of-network provider. Learn more about insurance & billing.
How do I know what my insurance covers?
I recommend calling your insurance company before your first appointment to understand your benefits. Ask about your deductible, copay, and whether you need prior authorization. See my full guide with questions to ask.
What if I don’t have insurance?
I offer competitive self-pay rates. Some clients prefer private pay for increased privacy (insurance requires a diagnosis on file) or because they have a high deductible. Contact me to discuss rates and options.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt I provide that contains all the information your insurance company needs to reimburse you for out-of-network services. You pay me directly, then submit the superbill to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Learn more about superbills.

Absolutely. I provide a safe, welcoming space for clients of all gender identities and sexual orientations. Your identity is respected and valued in my practice.
Getting Started
I’m nervous about starting therapy. Is that normal?
Completely normal! Starting therapy takes courage, and it’s natural to feel anxious about opening up to someone new. I strive to create a comfortable, non-judgmental environment. We’ll go at your pace, and you’re always in control of what you share.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
The relationship between therapist and client is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. I encourage you to trust your gut feeling after our first session. If you don’t feel we’re a good match, I’m happy to provide referrals to other therapists who might better meet your needs.
What should I do to prepare for my first appointment?
Just show up as you are. There’s no homework required. If it helps, you might jot down a few things you’d like to talk about or questions you have. You’ll receive intake paperwork to complete before our session, which you can do online through the client portal.
